Abstract

An iron alloy for tools and other purposes contains 0,15-1,6 per cent of carbon, 3,25-6 per cent of chromium, 8-20 per cent of tungsten, 1-5,6 per cent of molybdenum and up to 3 per cent of silicon, with or without up to 6 per cent of vanadium and up to 16 per cent of cobalt, and with or without small amounts of the following elements as impurities: manganese, nickel, titanium, tantalum, uranium, copper, aluminium, sulphur, phosphorus, arsenic, and tin. The molybdenum content is 12,5-28 per cent of the tungsten content. Heat treatments for hardening, tempering, carburizing, and nitrogenizing may be applied, and the tempering and nitrogenizing operations may be carried out simultaneously.
