Abstract

A structural steel of high tensile strength has a titanium content which is 2,05-3,5 times the carbon content with not exceeding 4 per cent of other elements including the carbon, silicon, and manganese. Chromium and copper may be present. The steel may contain 0,08-0,35 per cent of carbon, 0,35-1,75 per cent of manganese, up to 1,9 per cent of chromium, up to 1 per cent of copper, and up to 0,6 per cent of silicon, and small amounts of other elements such as molybdenum, vanadium, cobalt, nickel, tin, antimony, phosphorus and tungsten. The steel may be normalized by heating to say 900 DEG C. and air - cooling. Specifications 375,776; and 411,396, [Group VI], are referred to.
