Abstract

Steel alloys, particularly for tools, contain 0,6-15 per cent of molybdenum, and tungsten in amount between 10 and 40 per cent of the proportion of molybdenum, the minimum tungsten being 0,2 per cent. When the molybdenum is below 6 per cent, the silicon is below 0,45 per cent, which is also the preferable maximum of silicon for higher molybdenum contents. The alloys may contain 0,5-1,3 per cent of carbon, 0,1-1 per cent of manganese, 0,2-5 per cent of chromium, 0,2-4 per cent of tungsten, 0,1-1,5 per cent of vanadium, 0,6-10 per cent of molybdenum, and minor amounts of cobalt, nickel, tantalum, and uranium. Particular alloys may be hardened at 2000-2235 DEG F. and tempered at 940-1150 DEG F.
