Abstract

Springs and spring blanks are made from an alloy steel containing more than 1 per cent and up to about 2,25 per cent of manganese, more than 0,5 per cent and up to about 2 per cent of silicon, about 0,4-1,5 per cent of chromium, and about 0,15-0,3 per cent of vanadium. Molybdenum may be substituted for the chromium, wholly or in part. The springs are air-hardened as by normalizing and cooling in air from a forming temperature of about 900 DEG C. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises an alloy steel suitable for springs containing about 1-2,25 per cent of manganese, about 0,5-2 per cent of silicon, about 0,4-1,5 per cent of chromium, about 0,15-0,3 per cent of vanadium, the chromium being wholly or in part replaceable by molybdenum, and springs made from this steel. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
