Abstract

A non-magnetic steel alloy contains 16-25 per cent of manganese, 0,1-0,4 per cent of carbon, and up to 1,5 per cent of silicon, with or without up to 5 per cent of one or more other elements such as titanium, chromium, vanadium, and molybdenum. The alloy may have a wholly or mainly austenitic structure produced by heat-treatment such as quenching from about 1000 DEG C. or by hot shaping such as casting, rolling, or forging.
