Abstract

A corrosion-resistant steel contains about 0,01-2,0 per cent of carbon, ,07-1,0 of phosphorus, ,15-5 of copper, ,35-6,0 of chromium, 0,35-6 of silicon, 0,3-8 (preferably 1-6) of chromium, not more than 0,5 of manganese, not more than 0,1 of sulphur and the rest substantially iron. Small amounts, for example, a fraction of 1 per cent of nickel, molybdenum nickel and cobalt may also be present. Tungsten may also be present. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes a steel containing the same ingredients in the same proportions as the steel described above, but without chromium, and also one in which the whole or part of the silicon is substituted by aluminium, the content of the latter metal being 0,08-,75 per cent. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
