Abstract

The heat-treatment described in the parent Specification is applied to alloys containing 45-85 per cent of cobalt, upwards of 5 per cent of tungsten, the cobalt and tungsten amounting to at least 60 per cent, and up to 40 per cent of chromium. The chromium may be partially replaced by iron up to 35 per cent of the latter, and the alloys may contain up to 5 per cent of one or more of the elements molybdenum, manganese, nickel, copper, aluminium, vanadium, and titanium. In an example, an alloy containing 49 per cent of cobalt, 38 of tungsten, 12 of chromium, 1 of vanadium and 0,1 of carbon was quenched from 1200 DEG C. and annealed at 800 DEG C.
