Abstract

The mechanical properties of alloys consisting of copper and 0,2-3,0 per cent of chromium are improved by heating the alloys at temperatures between 700 DEG C. and the melting-point of the alloys, quenching and ageing at 350-700 DEG C. or working the alloys at above 700 DEG C., cooling in the air and then heating to 350-700 DEG C. The alloys may also contain 1-10 per cent of aluminium, and additions of one or more elements other than beryllium, titanium, or silicon which do not combine with chromium such as 1-10 per cent of nickel, 1-10 of tin, and 1-20 of zinc. The improved alloys may be used for the manufacture of fire boxes or parts thereof.
