Abstract
An alloy containing in percentage by weight <TABS:1033425/C6-C7/1> is subjected to a heat-treatment sequence consisting of (a) solution treatment at 700 DEG -970 DEG F. (b) cooling to 250 DEG F. or below at not more than 200 DEG F/Sec. (c) holding at room temperature for at least 72 hours (d) ageing at 200 DEG - 250 DEG F. for 4 to 24 hours (e) with or without an intermediate cooling ageing further at 280 DEG -320 DEG F. for 8-24 hours. The material may be subjected to a small amount of cold work e.g. 5% for straightening purposes prior to ageing. Solution treatment may be combined with hot working carried out in the precribed range.
