Abstract

527,828. Oil engines. GITTLESON, L. May 22, 1939, No. 15227. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii)] The cylinders of a direct injection oil engine are arranged coaxially in groups of four 25, 25<1>, 26, 26<1> in a single plane with a common crank shaft each adjacent pair of cylinders having an offset combustion chamber 40 Fig. 4 to which fuel is injected through a nozzle 43. The engine works on a two stroke cycle and has terminal inlet and exhaust ports and a reservoir 51 for the supply of charging air. The combustion chamber is scavenged by a separate air supply controlled by a distributing valve 24 and this supply may be used for starting. The combustion chamber is water jacketed to.facilitate starting in cold weather.
