Abstract

522,792. Driving gear. RIS, A. Dec. 16, 1938, Nos. 36683 and 36684. Convention dates, Dec. 17, 1937, and Oct. 21, 1938. [Class 7 (ii)] Driving gear for a fourstroke cycle engine comprises main and auxiliary crankshafts 20, 14, connected together by toothed wheels having a 1:2 ratio and by a lever 16 pivoted at one end to the connecting-rod 15. The expansion and exhaust strokes are thus rendered longer than the induction and compression strokes. The stroke differences may be varied by using helicoidal wheels to connect the shafts 20, 14, one of the wheels being axially slidable. During the working stroke the angle between the lever 16 and the crank connecting it to the shaft 14 remains approximately constant.
