Abstract
519,641. Pipe joints. SANDER, K. Sept. 26, 1938, Nos. 28019 and 28020. Convention dates, Oct. 4, 1937 and Sept. 16, 1938. [Class 99 (i)] A pipe end 6 is attached by a coupling nut 5 to a nipple 2 or to another pipe by forcing into a conical recess 3 a packing comprising a part 7a of yielding material and a metal part 7b both parts being deformed when the joint is made. Projections or indentations on the inside of the metal part at 13 may hold the two parts together. A fork-shaped clamp 12 may be wedged between the nut 5 and a collar 11 on the packing 7b to prevent loosening of the coupling. In a modification, the packing ring may have a conical surface at the part outside of the recess which co-operates with a corresponding surface in the coupling nut.
