Abstract

487,564. Pipe couplings. HOBSON, C., and HOBSON, J. R. Oct. 2, 1937, No. 26693. [Class 99 (i)] Each end 2 of a pipe elbow 1 has a conical recess carrying a seating ring 4 and a cylindrical journal 14, and is coupled to a conical spigot 6 of another pipe, having a cylindrical portion 13 fitting the journal, by a union nut 8 provided with locking means 10. The seating ring 4 may be extended to fit around the cylindrical extension of the spigot. By joining two rightangled elbow pipes together and connecting the free end of one of them to another pipe, by means of the above-described joint, in which the coupled pipes are capable of relative rotation about the coupling axis, a universal joint is formed.
