Abstract

379,413. Pipe joints. BAINBRIDGE & CO., Ltd., H. W., Grosvenor Buildings, Steelhouse Lane, and BREEDEN, F. V., 12, Cotton Lane, Moseley, both in Birmingham. June 9, 1931, Nos. 16739/31 and 865/32. [Class 99 (i).] In a pipe joint a split sleeve 1 is contracted on to a pipe 16 by a nut 11 screwing on to a pipe 18, the nut and sleeve having coacting conical surfaces, packing 9 contained in a recess in the sleeve being compressed by the end of the pipe 18. The sleeve is retained in the nut by a ferrule 13, and a washer 10 is located between the packing and the pipe end 18. Ths split portion of the sleeve has an annular groove 5 and may be separate from that part of the sleeve containing the packing. In a modification, the nut has a plain bore 20, Fig. 5, a thickened end 21, and an internal shoulder 19, the end 21 being swaged after insertion of the sleeve to provide a coned inner surface and retain the sleeve.
