434,020. Pipe joints. HUDD, A. E., Villa Blanche, Balcombe Road, Pound Hill, Crawley, Sussex, and ROUSE, SIR A. M., Yew Tree Cottage, Horning, near Norwich, Norfolk. Feb. 19, 1934, No. 5334. [Class 99 (i)] A soft-metal conical packing sleeve 11 is arranged on a pipe 10 with its flat end face 13 adjacent the end of the pipe and is compressed by a nut having a tapered socket of slightly greater conicity. The face 13 abuts against a similar packing sleeve 12 which is compressed in the tapered socket 18 of a coupling member 16 or against a flat face of the coupling member. Two pipes are joined as shown in Fig. 3, each pipe end carrying a soft metal sleeve 11 and a coupling member 14, the coupling members screwing together. The sleeves may be contracted on to the pipes before assembling the joint by using a screw plug as an abutment for the pipe end and sleeve.
