Abstract

380,035. Pipe joints. BAINBRIDGE & CO., Ltd., H. W., Grosvenor Buildings, Steelhouse Lane, and BREEDEN, F. V., 12, Cotton Lane, Moseley, both in Birmingham. June 9, 1931, Nos. 17335/32 and 17336/32. Divided on 379,413. [Class 99 (i).] A device for joining pipes comprises an outer sleeve or nut 11 attached to a pipe 18 and an inner sleeve 1 having a contractible portion, the inner sleeve being disposed between abutments in the outer sleeve which is capable of limited endwise movement to contract the inner sleeve on to the pipe 16. Packing 9 in the sleeve 1 is compressed by the end of the pipe 18, and the sleeve is retained in the nut by a ferrule 13. In a modification the nut has a plain bore 20, Fig. 5, a thickened end 21, and an internal shoulder 19, the end 21 being swaged after insertion of the sleeve to provide a coned inner surface and retain the sleeve.
