Abstract

306,761. Brereton, A. S., and British Petroleum Co., Ltd. April 30, 1928. Joints with longitudinal pressure and with yielding outer part compressed.-A hose is secured to the spigot 2 of a coupling member 1 by means of a split sleeve 6 which is adapted to be contracted onto the end of the hose by a coupling member so as to press the end of the hose against a seating washer 10 therein. The sleeve 6 is provided with gripping perforations 8 and the inner end 7 thereof is bevelled to coact with a like surface 3 on the coupling member or on an internal reducing washer 17, while the outer end coacts with a conical flange on the nut 11 between which and the split sleeve a reducing washer 16 may be interposed. In a modification the outer end of the split sleeve is slightly splayed while the other end is closed in.
