Abstract
544,003. Pipe joints. FREYSSINET, E. July 27, 1939, Nos. 21838 and 21839. Convention dates, July 29, 1938 and May 23, 1939. [Class 99 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] A joint-making packing for pipe joints comprises a hollow ring 4 made of malleable material such as copper, provided with a lining 5 of rubber or other plastic material, and adapted to be subjected to internal pressure so that the lining 5 bears against the parts 2, 3, to be coupled. Figs. 1 and 2 show the packing in unexpanded and expanded condition respectively. The lining 5 is held in place by end clips 6 and may have ridges on its outer surface. A nozzle 7 is formed on the ring 4 for the introduction of pressure. A cement, e.g. synthetic resin, may be introduced under pressure into the ring 4. If, after use, the joint leaks further cement may be forced into the ring 4. In a modification for a butt joint a ring 4 is inserted between the end of each pipe and a surrounding coupling ring. In another modification, a portion of the ring is enlarged so that in its expanded state it bears directly against the coupled parts.
