Abstract

818,674. Hose and fittings. COMPRESSION JOINTS Ltd. Oct. 19, 1956 [Nov. 9, 1955], No. 31988/55. Class 99(1). In a compression type hose and fitting an annular cupped ferrule 5, 6 is provided which is inserted into a sleeve 8 and secured by a nut 7, and consists of a brass outer bush 5 which embeds in the end of a synthetic plastic pipe 4, e.g. of polythene and a copper inner sleeve 6 having an outwardly projecting annular head fitting against a step in the bush. The end rim of the sleeve is swaged over the nose of the bush, the inner surface of which has annular serrations opposite longitudinal serrations on the outer surface of the sleeve which provide for retention of the pipe end. In modifications, an adhesive may be employed to secure the pipe to the ferrule. Small rents may be incorporated in the bush to provide a key for the plastic pipe material and to allow visual indication of inserted depth.
