Abstract

908,311. Pipe joints. A. B. PLASTICS Ltd. Aug. 3, 1961 [Oct. 3, 1960], No. 33850/60. Class 99(1). A pipe boss comprises outer and inner parts 1, 2 of annular form and of synthetic plastic material such as polyvinyl chloride and provided at one end with integral flanges 3<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP> constructed to fit opposite surfaces of a pipe 9 or other object, the parts having interfitting tapered surfaces 7<SP>1</SP>, 6<SP>1</SP> and the outer part being extended to provide a socket 8<SP>1</SP> for the reception of a branch pipe 11 or other object. The flanges may be circular or rectangular and inclined to the axes of the annular portions of the parts, and the socket 8<SP>1</SP> may be tapered internally. The parts may be secured by a synthetic plastic adhesive. In a modification, the part 1 is provided with a screwthread 12 which receives a gland 15 for compressing a soft metal ring 14 against a shoulder 13 and to grip a pipe 16.
