Abstract

789,919. Pipe couplings. EXTRUDEX, Ltd. Oct. 31, 1956 [Jan, 23, 1956], No. 2234/56. Class 99(1). Circlips 14 fitted in grooves 13 in pipes 11, 12 are urged by shoulders of collars 18, 19 into engagement with a packing sleeve 17, deformable rings 15, 16 of synthetic rubber or plastic and of circular or rectangular cross-section being inserted between the sleeve and the circlips. As described, the circlips are of the thickness of the pipe wall, and the sleeve is two-thirds of this thickness and made of similar material as the pipes, and the collars are made of metal or plastic. The grooves 13 extend inwardly about a third of the pipe wall thickness. To prevent expansion, the collars fit closely over the external surfaces of the pipes and are drawn together by bolts 20 so as to compress the rings 15, 16 and obtain a tight seal. The pipes are made of rigid material, including specified synthetic plastics, glass fibre material, metal and concrete.
