Abstract

807,205. Pipe joints. MATHIEU, Y. July 23. 1956 [Sept. 15, 1955], No. 22750/56. Class 99(1), [Also in Group XXVI] In a bell-and-spigot joint wherein a sealing ring 3, Fig. 5, comprising a pair of lips 1, 2 of resilient material and U or V-shaped in cross-section has associated therewith a locking ring 14 of resilient material for preventing displacement of the ring 3 towards the bottom of the bell 5 upon joining of the pipes, or displacement out of the bell by the action of internal fluid pressure, the lips 1, 2 respectively sealing against the bell 5 and spigot 8, the ring 14 is adapted to be housed between the lips and to force the lip 1 against the bell on formation of the joint. The lips may be of the same hardness, and the thickness of the outer lip may be greater than that of the inner lip. As shown in Fig. 2, the two rings are provided with threads or annular ridges 9 for improving the seal against the walls of the pipes ; additionally, a synthetic resin adhesive which remains resilient may be applied to the surfaces of the pipes. The ring 14 may be reinforced by an element 12, Fig. 3, of cloth, canvas or steel, and the sealing ring may be, as shown, housed in a recess in the bell.
