Abstract

656,032. Pipe joints. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS, Lad. Oct. 21, 1948. No. 27400. [Class 99(i)] [Also in Group XXVI] A pipe joint comprises a spigot 2 and a faucet 3 attached to the respective pipe ends, means, such as nuts and bolts 4, for drawing the spigot and faucet together, and a packing ring (see Group XXVI), which is positioned in a. seating formed between the adjacent pipe ends and comprises a single annular core member made of readily deformable material, e.g. synthetic rubberlike material, which is positioned between separate inner and outer annular reinforcing guard members made of a less readily deformable material, e.g. metal or hard fabric, so that it stands proud of the guard members on each side thereof for respectively contacting the two adjoining pipe ends, the guard members restricting flow of the core in an inward and outward radial direction when axial pressure is applied to the ring.
