Abstract

610,394. Pipe joints. LOCK JOINT PIPE CO. April 4, 1946, No. 10410. Convention date, Dec. 29, 1941. [Class 99 (i)] A joint for pipes made of plastic materials which subsequently harden and particularly for concrete pipes in which a spigot 11 of one pipe telescopes into a socket 10 of another pipe so as to compress a sealing gasket 15, is characterised in that the spigot consists of plastic such as cementitious material, that both bearing surfaces 12, 13 are cylindrical, and that a circumferential groove 14 is provided in the surface 13 of the spigot, the groove having a uniform cross-section and enclosing the gasket which is made of rubber or like deformable material. In Fig. 2, the socket 10 is an integral part of the pipe and is wholly cementitious. Fig. 3 shows the socket formed by affixing a separately formed collar 21 to the pipe 22; it also shows the socket bearing surface constituted by a metal ring 23 and the space 24 at the end of the socket filled with mortar.
