Abstract

740,433. Pipe joints; stopping leakages. PASS & CO., Ltd.. E. Nov. 4, 1954 [Nov. 5, 1953], No. 30578/53. Classes 99(1) and 99(2). Two semi-cylindrical parts 10 are provided with external lugs or flanges whereby those parts are bolted together around the adjacent ends of aligned pipes 19, or in a position such as to embrace a fractured or defective pipe section, and internal grooves and recesses 15, 16 which respectively receive resilient annular and longitudinal sealing means 17. Each annular sealing means has a transverse, concave inner face which, when the parts 10 are clamped in position, enables annular sealing contact to take place over an increased area of the surface of the pipes as those means are deformed, and at the same time leads to the formation at each side thereof of a lip 20 which is acted upon by the pressure of the fluid conveyed by the pipes to increase the sealing action. The sealing means may be of rubber or a water-resistant plastic material, and be moulded in one piece or made in two pieces and joined by adhesive.
