Abstract

803,487. Pipe couplings. FINCH & CO., Ltd., THROWER, S. E. and OTTREY, J. A. Jan. 28, 1957 [Feb. 3, 1956], No. 3501/56. Class 99(1). A socket 12 on a pipe 11 receives the end 16 of a pipe 15 on which is loosely fitted a deformable sealing ring 17 which abuts against a shoulder 18 in the socket, and compression member 19 is moved along the pipe 15 and rotated to compress the ring 17, outwardly directed abutments 22 on the member 19 engaging inwardly directed abutments 21 on the socket part 12 to form a kind of bayonet slot connection. As shown the socket 12 is formed in the side wall of a vertical pipe. Flats 20 are provided on the member 19 for a spanner. The abutments 21 have two radially directed equiangularly spaced lugs behind which engage surfaces 23 of the abutments 22 which comprise long flange segments provided around the member 19. To limit angular movement of the member 19 a flange segment 22 is provided with a stop 24. The sealing member 17 may be made of a resilient matreial e.g. natural or synthetic rubber or a synthetic plastic.
