689,358. Pipe couplings. LANNINGER, K. L. April 6, 1951 [April 6, 1950], No. 8051/51. Class 99 (i). Sealing rings c on sleeves b engage the inner surface of spherical cup-like portions a formed on the ends of pipes, and rings d closely engaging the outer surface of the portions a carry clamping-means which in the locked position compress together packing rings c<SP>1</SP> in the opposing ends of the sleeves. The clamping-means may comprise a lever h to which is pivoted a member g having a hook d<SP>4</SP> engaging behind a rib d<SP>2</SP>, the hook and the rib being inclined with respect to the axis of the coupling so that by varying the angular relationship of the rings d the pressure on the rings c' may be varied.
