Abstract
715,034. Hose end fittings. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. May 13, 1952 [June 12, 1951], No. 13958/51. Class 99 (1). In a hose end fitting of the kind in which the end of the hose is gripped between a sleeve 12 and insert 13, a separate packing ring 15, preferably of softer material than the hose, lies in a groove 14 in the insert, the ring being smaller than the groove so as to leave a space, the pressure of the fluid accumulating in the space assisting the compression of the ring. The fitting is assembled by screwing the sleeve 12 on to the hose end which has been bared to its reinforcement. The tapered insert is then screwed into the sleeve to cause initial compression of the ring 15 and to compress the hose end into the screw-thread of the insert. The ring 15 may be bonded in position at one end of the groove. A rubber protecting sleeve 23, preformed to the shape shown, is pushed into position over the sleeve 12. In another form the groove is formed in the tapered part of the insert and communicates with the bore of the fitting through holes 21, Fig. 3. The packing ring 17 is bonded to the insert at 18, 19 and a space 20 is left for pressure fluid.
