Abstract

836,171. Pipe couplings. ABBOFLEX Ltd. Aug. 13, 1958 [Oct. 31, 1957], No. 34063/57. Class 99(1). An end connector for flexible tubing comprises a metallic member 11, with a connection 24, a ferrule 16, an intermediate portion 18 of smaller internal diameter than that of the ferrule 16 and having an internal helical rib 20, and a frusto-conical boss 23 having its larger diameter less than the internal diameter of the portion 18. The connection 24 may be a screwthreaded spigot or socket. The end connection is secured to a composite tube 17, formed by an external sheath 25, e.g. of rubber or synthetic plastic, and a helical grooved flexible metallic core 19, by stripping the end portion of the sheath 25 from the metallic core 19 and screwing the rib 20 into the helical groove, the ferrule 16 being subsequently compressed radially on the sheath 25.
