Abstract

838,246. Pipe joints. COMPRESSION JOINTS Ltd. Nov. 17 1958 [Nov. 22, 1957], No. 36394/57. Addition to 818,674. Class 99(1). In the compression type hose end fitting described in the parent Specification a ferrule 3 having concentric cylindrical walls 3a, 3b is located within one end of the bore of an externally screw-threaded male fitting element 5 which is provided within its bore with an inclined compression face y adapted to effect the embedment of the rim of the wall 3a of the ferrule into the periphery of a plastic pipe 4 fitted through the element 5 when the latter is screwed within a tapped, female, fitting element 6. As shown, the end of the pipe 4 is located between the walls of the ferrule. The bore of the element 5 is formed with two portions of different diameters divided by the compression face y. Alternatively, the bore of the male element 7, Fig. 2, is formed with three portions 7a, 7b, 7c of different diameters, the intermediate portion 7a being adapted to receive the deformed part of the ferrule 3. The ferruel 3 is provided with'a frusto-conical head 3c the face of which sealingly engages a similarly inclined mouth 6a of the female element when the ferrule head is engaged by the forward end of the element 5. The other wall of the ferrule may be compressed in a plane remote from its rim or the wall may be embedded in two or more dia. metral planes.
