Abstract

293,565. Lament, B. N. R. July 1, 1927. Joints with longitudinal pressure and with yielding outer part compressed. - A soft metal pipe 10, Fig. 5, is coupled to a socket member 11 by. first securing a collar 17, having a countersunk face 26, to the pipe end and thereafter expanding the pipe end within the collar and completing the joint in one operation by drawing the collar and pipe end over a tapered plug 21 engaging the member 11. The collar 17 is secured to the pipe by providing it with a reduced neck portion 18 which is deformed to grip the pipe under the action of. the coupling nut 14, which has a countersunk face 16 adapted to coact with the said neck portion 18, the pipe meanwhile abutting against the member 11, Fig. 2. The invention is also applicable to the jointing of two pipes, Fig. 8, the collars being compressed onto the pipes by the jointing flanges 27, 28, Fig. 7, which in a modification are replaced' by interengaging threaded sleeves.
