Joints with longitudinal pressure and with yielding outer part compressed.-In a joint for soft-metal pipes a, a<1>, wherein the ends of the pipes are flared and then coupled by being gripped between an internal hollow spigot member B of double conical formation and external coupling sleeves or flanges, Figs. 1, 5 and 8, the conical portions b, b<1> of the spigot member terminate in cylindrical portions c, c<1> as shown. A spigot member having one end b<2> of uniform taper throughout, but of a lesser degree than the portion b of the other end, may be employed, more particularly in connecting a pipe to a conically-bored socket h of a T-piece H, Fig. 3.
