290,526. Herring, E. Dec. 6, 1927. Sleeve joints; stuffing- box joints.-In a pipe joint wherein the adjacent ends of the pipes A, B are serewthreaded to engage an external coupling sleeve E which is provided with packing d<3> interposed between one end thereof and a locking nut D threaded on the pipe A, part of the bore d<1> of the nut D is enlarged to fit over the packing and also the end e<1> of the coupling sleeve which is slightly reduced to form a stop for the locking nut. A metal washer d<2> may be provided between the locking nut and the packing, and the adjacent surfaces of said washer and the coupling sleeve may be bevelled as shown.
