Abstract

143,432. Hartley, W. July 23, 1919. Tapered spigot-andsocket joints.-In the type of coupling in which coupling members of spigot and socket form respectively are screwed on to the ends of the pipes to be joined and drawn together by a union nut screwing on one and engaging a flange on the other, annular grooves of dovetail shape are formed in the curved faces of the contacting members, and rings 5, 14 of soft metal are forced into these grooves. The surfaces are then turned to the necessary shape.
