4677. Lake, W. E., [Stoddard, W. H.]. Feb. 24. Overlap joints with tapered spigot; couplings with union nuts. -The coupling shown in Fig. 1 comprises a socket member K having a recess 0 to receive a metal packing - ring D and a tapered spigot A, the two members being brought and held together by the screwed nut H. The packing- ring is provided with a tongue portion G, and has its upper and lower inclined faces substantially parallel. Instead of a union nut, a flanged union may be provided, and the packing-ring may be secured in either member of the coupling, or both members may be provided with packing-rings.
