Spigot and - socket .screwed joints with packing compressed at base of socket. - Two enamelled pipes a, b are joined by means of interengaging screw -threaded socket and spigot members c, e, which are screwed on to the plain externally-threaded pipe ends and locked thereon by locknuts d, f. The spigot member e is preferably provided with an annular recess g which is allowed to overhang its pipe end, to accommodate a packing ring h.
