Abstract

Overlap joints with tapered spigot; couplings with union nuts.-The jointing-pieces of unions for cast-iron or steel pipes are electrolytically coated all over with copper to obtain a joint which will draw'up tight and give non-rusting separable members which are not damaged by high-temperature steam. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the cast-steel or similar jointing-members 1, 8, which are secured together by a nut 6, are turned or ground on their bearing-faces 7, 9, and are completely covered with copper by electro-deposition. The Specification also describes a flanged joint, the flanges carrying surfaces similar to those at 7, 9, Fig. 1, and being covered completely with copper. One member only may alternatively be coated with copper.
