Butt joints; couplings with union nuts.-A coupling for connecting metal tubes flanged at both ends consist of two rings each formed in halves, one ring being placed against a flange on one pipe, and the other against the adjacent flange on the next section, so that a coupling- nut engaging the split rings can draw the two flanges together on to an interposed washer. As shown in Fig. 1, one of the split rings 5 may be threaded externally, so that the ring nut 8, which is capable of being passed over the flanges 1<Î>, 2<Î>, can be screwed on to it, and both the split rings 4, 5 are provided with recesses 6 which engage with projections 7 on the pipes so as to hold the rings in correct position.
