Abstract

Expansion joints, especially for brine pipes or refrigeratorgrids, consist of U - shaped metal pipes, which may have a coil or loop, joined to the main pipes by a special coupling. The bent metal connexion, which may be a flexible pipe, is secured to the elbow d, which fits over a nipple c screwed or brazed to one of the pipes to be joined. The securing- bolt f screws into the nipple c, which is provided with a series of holes h for passage of the fluid. The joints are rendered tight by a lead washer e and copper ring g, or the latter may be replaced by a shoulder on the bolt fitting a countersunk groove. The nipple may take the form of a tapered spigot fitting in a socket on the elbow, or vice versa. A blank cap, secured by the bolt f, may be provided.
