Branches and mains, connecting. - Branches are connected to mains by providing a hole c in the main a for the branch pipe b and forming the latter with two or more oppositely directed lugs d, d'. The branch is then introduced into the hole by inclining the branch pipe so as to bring one projection or set of projections into the pipe as shown in Fig. 1, and then rocking the pipe over so as to introduce the other. The pipe is then drawn outwards to bear the projections against the inside of the main, and is locked in position by an outside nut with or without packing.
