7717. Franks, E. A. March 30. Overlap joints with inner pipe gripped by packing; couplings with bolts and flanges.-Relates to joints for gas and water mains, having lead &c. packing, strengthened by a rubber ring 6 of circular cross-section compressed against the mouth of the socket by flanges 4, 5 and bolts 9. The cross-section of the flange 4 is of V-form internally and the flange bears on the spigot to act as a fulcrum between spigot and flange when there is a subsidence of the soil. To facilitate application to the pipe, the flanges are in two parts held together by bolts 7.
