7734. Pugh, S. A. April 3. Couplings, attaching pipes to. - Relates to a solderless pipe joint for either metal or flexible tubing. The lead piping is expanded, and gripped between two cones, adjusted by screwing together, or by a flange coupling. Fig. 1 shows a section of the joint, applied to two lengths of lead piping. The cone D has its smaller end equal to the outside diameter of the pipe A, which is placed through outer cone D, and its end expanded by the inner cone C being screwed into the cone D by means of nuts G, F. The internal diameter of the cone C is the same as that of the lead piping A, B. Fig. 2 shows the coupling screwed on to iron piping N, and a joint with lead piping A made by means of the cones. Flexible piping may be jointed by means of this apparatus.
