Abstract

3052. Rudolph, C. Feb. 8. Couplings with union nuts; overlap joints with circumferential packing; sleeve joints.- Couplings are fitted to flexible metal pipes, of the type having a metal-plaited or other sheath. so that the sheath is gripped and cannot slip away from the coupling should the pipe elongate. The end of the sheath 2, Fig. 1, which covers the flexible pipe 1, is unplaited and the wires 3 are bent round the ring 9 so as to be gripped between it and the socket 6 and the packing 8 when the nut 11 is screwed down, the end of the pipe 1 resting on the shoulder 5. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the end 3 of the sheath or sheaths is gripped between the annular groove 18 on the nut 16 and the rib 19 on the collar 15 screwed on to the pipe. In another modification, both the end of the sheath and a collar are screwed on the pipe, the coupling being secured by a nut as shown in Fig. 1.
