Joints for concentric pipes; overlap joints with inner pipe gripped by packing.-Relates to joints for sheathed flexible tubing, in which independent connexion is provided for the tube and its sheath, and is particularly applicable to connecting spraying-nozzles for use in oilfired furnaces. The flexible tube b of helically coiled metal strip screws into the coupling a and the joint is made tight by packing c compressed by a gland ring d and nut e. The nut e is in the form of a sleeve, to the end of which the sheath h is connected. The strain on the sheath may be adjusted by means of rings or distance-pieces, preferably made in halves, placed at the end of the sleeve e. Overlap joints with longitudinal pressure and with yielding outer pipe nipped against a tapered sleeve or ferrule. The sheath h in the above coupling may be gripped between tapered surfaces on the sleeve e and a ring y by means of a nut f. The male taper may be on either of the parts e, g. Butt joints with union nuts.-Instead of having tapered surfaces, the parts e, g may be plain, or provided with coacting annular recesses and projections, the sheath being gripped between them. When the sheath is formed of helical strip, a sleeve j may be screwed on to it, and drawn against the end of the sleeve e, Fig. 8, by a nut f<1>. The nut may have a flared end to facilitate bending of the tube.
