Abstract

432,642. Pipe joints. TATHAM, H., Norfolk Farm House, Pyrford, Surrey. Jan. 31, 1934, No. 3218. [Class 99 (i)] A hose pipe coupling comprises a flanged liner 4, a sleeve 9 extending over the flange 3 and having an internal flange 10 fitting closely on the hose, and packing material 13, such as lead, interposed between the hose and sleeve which screws on to an adaptor 17 to compress the packing on to the hose. To join two hose sections the liner flanges abut and the sleeves have screw-threaded engagement. Lead washers 7, 19 are provided, and the surfaces of the flange and adaptor may have concentric annular grooves 18. The packing sleeve 13 may have a bevelled end. The liner is rounded at 5 and may have a roughened surface. In the case of a hose having an inner metallic tube with helical ribs, the liner 4 is adapted to screw into the hose.
