Abstract
442,393. Pipe joints. DICK, B., Ferguson, Missouri, U.S.A. Dec. 7, 1934, No. 35247. [Class 99 (i)] A coupling for connecting a flexible hose 11 with a rigid tube 16, and both to a fixed support 13, comprises a .hose connector 17 permanently attached to the hose end and formed with an external shoulder 31 which is secured against the support 13 by a nut 33 engaging a screw-threaded extension of the connector 17, the pipe 16 being attached by a screwed member 28 engaging internal threads on the extension. A nipple 24 placed within the hose is expanded to force the wall of the hose into grooves 23 in the connector 17, and the end of the nipple is bevelled at 26 to engage a flared end on the pipe 16. In a modification, the nipple 24 extends completely through the connector 17 and has its end bent over a bevelled end formed on the extension of the connector, the flared end of the pipe being secured against this bevelled end by the nut 28 engaging the external threads on the extension.
