Abstract

Overlap joints with circumferential packing, with screwed spigot or socket, and with union nuts.-The joint between a flexible metal, rubber or like tube a, Fig. 1, and a rigid tube or other fitting c is made by screwing the tube a into a spiral spring b fixed in the recess d of the tube or fitting c. If, as shown in Fig. 4, packing f be employed, this is secured between nuts e, e<1> screwed on the spiral b, and the whole is then fixed to the pipe c by a union nut g. Either of the nuts e or e<1> may be omitted, the packing then abutting against the end of the tube c or the flange of the unit g. Lengths of flexible tubing may be joined together, and instead of screwing the tube into the spiral, it may be screwed over it.
