Abstract

264,030. Pearson, S. 0. Feb. 15, 1926. Patent abandoned on opposition. Cup-leather overlap joints.-A pipe joint comprises two flanged conical packing rings e, f of rubber which are adapted to embrace the ends: c, d of the pipes a, b to be coupled and are maintained in position thereon by a short length of metallic tubing &c. k, which is embedded on the outer tapered circumferential surfaces h of the rings e, f between the flanges g thereof. The various parts are embraced by a metallic coupling, preferably formed in two parts n, o held together by bolts p, provided with inward extensions s which abut against outer edges q formed on the pipe ends which may be expanded. Alternatively, the extensions s engage grooves formed near the ends of the pipes. Various modifications are described which include the provision of grooves in the inner surfaces of the flanges g for the reception of the ring k, and forming the clamping bolts p as studs integral with the said ring.
