Abstract

315,550. Victaulic Co., Ltd., and Johnson, P. G. June 19, 1928. Cup-leather joints.-In a pipe joint of the kind described in Specification 149,381, the lips 4, 5 of the rubber jointing ring 3 are biassed into their gripping positions on the pipe ends 1, 2 by split steel rings 8, 9 positioned as shown in Fig. 1. In a modification, the jointing ring is formed of two rubber rings 3, 11, Fig. 2, and a steel ring 10 is vulcanized in position therebetween, the ring 10 being deformed to bias the lips 4, 5 upon application of the jointing ring to the pipe ends. Alternatively, a split steel ring 14, Fig. 6, rolled to conform to the interior of the jointing ring when in position and provided with holes 15 forming fluid passages between the interior of the pipes and the back of the ring 14 is used. Further modified constructions of steel rings are described.
