Abstract

343,781. Pipe joints. BROMFORD TUBE CO., Ltd., SPENCER, R. W., and PARKINSON, J., Wheelwright Road, Erdington, Birmingham. March 18, 1930, No. 8642. [Class 99 (i).] In a pipe joint the edges of a sealing ring 13 are adapted to be forced into contact with the interior surface of the pipes by the pressure within the pipes. The ring has chamfered edges 20 and a ridge 14 which engages a groove in a packing ring 7 contained in recesses in the abutting end faces of the pipe. Preferably, a plain ring is inserted and the ridge is formed by a spinning operation in situ. The joint is tightened by a clamp having inclined faces 4 engaging corresponding faces on the pipe flanges 3.
